Ten Keys to Survival
1. Preserve capital.
2. Maintain maximum liquidity.
3. If not profitable, cut expenses down to where you break even.
4. Be prepared to fire friends and family.
5. Credit quality always matters.
6. Always have 3-5 company-wide goals. Make certain everyone knows what they are.
7. Commit to better financial reporting. If you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it.
8. Try to hire people from companies that have been successful.
9. Focus only on the things you can control.
10. Always worry. And if you can’t think of things to be worried about, worry about being overconfident.
8 Rules Taught in Leadership Training in the Army
1. Maintain absolute integrity. Build trust ahead of all else.
2. Become an expert at your task. This is a key part of earning respect.
3. Declare your expectations. Tell people where you’re headed and they will take you there.
4. Show uncommon commitment. People will know if you’re not 100% committed.
5. Expect high performance. Prepare for the worst but expect the best.
6. Take care of your people. A reputation for doing this will also attract others to your unit.
7. Put duty before self. If your personal needs come before the mission’s needs, you are not leading the mission.
8. Lead from the front. Don’t be in an ivory tower or above the fray. You get a better view from the front lines, and it’s the best way to demonstrate your commitment.
